Barbara Mae (Fletcher) Jordan, 92, of Burbank, went home to be with the Lord and with her beloved husband and loved ones on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 at the Avenue in Wooster.
She was born on March 24, 1926 in Grosse Pointe, MI to the late Frank E. and Eleanor Gail (Barr) Fletcher and was raise by her mother and step-father, Arthur E. Elliott. Being an only child, Barbara’s dream of having a large family became reality when she married Muriel W. Jordan on Oct. 5, 1946 who had six brothers. Together she and Muriel were blessed with seven children and shared 58 years together until his death on Sept. 6, 2004. Barbara worked at the PCA in Rittman as a secretary for many years having later transferred to Tenneco, Inc. in Houston where she retired in 1985. Over the years she had been active in the Order of Easter Star, served as Secretary of Rittman Community Fund Committee for 8 years and served as the Church Secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in Rittman for many years. Barbara currently attended Canaan Free Will Baptist Church.
Barbara had been the High School Valedictorian and was an avid reader who was known to read a book a day and had read through the Bible several times. She loved communicating with friends and family by writing letters until she was introduced to Facebook. She never forgot a birthday and was always sending cards to her children, in-laws, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends and would buy 30 to 40 cards at a time often three months in advance. Having five sons who all played basketball, she loved sports and was always their biggest fan. When the kids were out of school she would sit for hours and watch golf, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Browns, Indians and Cavs. She loved holidays because that meant family would come from out of town and there would always be a big family gathering. She is remembered as being a devoted Christian who never had a negative thing to say about anyone and who would always say “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
