Amy Frances Richard, 83, of Wooster on the day of the Lord, August 4, 2026, went home to be with Jesus.

Amy was born on the home farm in Medina County on April 24, 1943, to John R. and Gertrude A. (Gammell) Miller and when she was one year old the family moved to Wayne County where she lived all her life. She graduated from Norwayne High School in May 1961 and on Oct. 26, 1961, she married Jay H. Richard, and they were blessed with four children. Amy had worked at Value Center, Buckeye Mart, Hawkins Market and was an Avon Lady in Smithville for a few years. In 1975 she started her own business, Amy’s Cakes and Catering Service. She sold cakes in the thousands and catered many weddings and business parties for 34 ½ years until retiring. She also had taught cake decorating at Wayne College for two years.

Amy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 50 years where she had served as the Sunday School Secretary for 5 years. She had been a 4-H advisor in Smithville, babysat 2 of her 8 grandchildren and she loved going to all her grandchildren’s school and sporting events over the years.

Surviving is her husband, Jay; her four children and their spouses, Cyndi K. and Tim McAleese, Holly R. and James Spurlock, David J. and Cindy Richard and Amy Lynn and Mark Dodez; her grandchildren, Aaron and his wife Aubrey Spurlock, Ashley and her husband Ian Murray, Austen and his wife Amanda Spurlock, Annika Spurlock, Lindsey and husband Colin Cottrell, Jarret Richard and Steven Dodez; 7 great-grandchildren, Harrison, Finley, Delaney, Delilah and Delores Spurlock and Brooks and Callie Cottrell; her brother, Clyde and his wife Kathy Miller; 2 sisters, Esther and her husband Robert Strock and Gladys Weidner and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Karrie Dodez, her parents, a sister, Louisa Nice and brothers, Stanley, Russell and Calvin Miller.

Services will be Thursday, Aug. 6th at 12:00 noon at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
