Alta Mae Hackworth

Alta Mae Hackworth, 89, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Wayne County Care Center.

Alta Mae was born May 26, 1928 in Bonanza, KY to the late Greeley and Lizzie (Caudill) Hackworth and married Jerry M. Hackworth on Sept. 27, 1946. Jerry preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2003. She had made her home in Wooster since 1965 and was a charter member of the Canaan Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and she will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her children, James (Judi) Hackworth of Wooster, Karen (Phil) Huff of Adairsville, GA, Jerry R. (Brenda Sue) Hackworth of Wooster, Jeffery (Brenda Kay) Hackworth of Wooster, Lesi (Paul “Butch”) Jarrell Jr. of Schroon Lake, NY and Lori (Chuck) Gelvin of Wooster; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Bureeda Hackworth of Ada, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Everett, Cecil, Manis, Maynard, Earl and Earnest Hackworth and sisters, Mary Alice Pruitt, Elsie Leak, Flora Conley and Edna Floor.

Services will be Saturday, March 31st at 3:00 p.m. at Canaan Free Will Baptist Church in Creston with Pastor Mike Gladson officiating. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. Friends may call Friday form 5-8 p.m. at the Church. Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
