Joan Daugherty Obituary

Joan M. Daugherty, 90, of Wooster  was surrounded by family as she made her journey to her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 9, 2019 following a period of declining health.

Joan was born on March 29, 1929 in Burbank to the late Joseph and Sylvia (Brown) Sayre and  was a 1947 graduate of Burbank High School.  On November 23, 1948 she married Lavon L. Daugherty and he survives. Joan had made her home in Burbank until moving to Wooster in 1969.  She graduated from Wooster Business College and worked at several businesses until joining the U.S. Post Office from which she retired after many years of service.  Joan was a member of West Hill Baptist Church.

Joan was a loving and involved Mom, Gramma, and Great-Gramma and she loved attending all the activities that her family was involved in.  She was proud to be a Burbank Bomber and could still recite some of her cheers from her cheerleading days! Joan loved sports having enjoyed watching in person or on TV and of course, her favorite was The Ohio State Buckeyes. Her best Saturday afternoons were those spent at The Shoe rooting on the OSU football team.   Joan enjoyed traveling and going on bus trips with her friends and she loved playing games, working puzzles, and would teach and challenge anyone to a game of Skipbo.

Joan found great joy in opening up her home and pool to many people during the 47 years she lived on Christmas Run.  Everyone loved her bright and contagious smile!

Joan’s greatest joy was her family.  She will be greatly missed by her husband and children; Gary (Robin) Daugherty of Burbank, Bruce (Marcia) Daugherty of Wooster, Rick (Bette) Daugherty of Bowerston, and Julie (Jerry) Craycraft of Wooster, along with her beloved grandchildren, Laurie (Joe) Ksiazek, Joe (Julie) Daugherty, Jara (David) Palmer, Jenna (Jason) Young, Jade (John Caleb) Sanders, Bill (Casey) Billington, John Moran, and Michelle Hamby.  Along with her great-grandchildren, Caiden Ksiazek, Coen and Kaia Palmer, Easton Sanders, Audrey Daugherty, Harper, Cole and Olivia Billington Chase and Morgan Hamby, plus the 2 on the way.   She is also survived by her brother, Duane (Doby) Sayre of Burbank.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Urlin and Robert, and great grandchildren; Baby Palmer and Baby Sanders.
