Janice Eileen James

Janice Eileen James, 85, of Fredericksburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 at Danbury Woods in Wooster.

Jan was born Dec. 22, 1933 in Cleveland and was the daughter of the late Harold R. and Eileen M. (Rogers) Allshouse.  She was a 1951 graduate of James Rhodes High School and attended Kent State University having worked while putting herself through college.  While attending college she was a Major in the Ladies Division of ROTC, was the “Dream Girl” of Theta Chi Fraternity and a was member of the Delta Zeta Sorority which she was active in for 65 years.  Jan graduated from Kent in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education and taught school for 25 years having worked in the Southeast Local Schools.  After retiring from full time teaching she served as a substitute teacher  and worked part time in the family business, Dale James Ford.  She was an active member of the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church having been a Deacon, a Sunday School Teacher, served on  the Session and the Women’s Task Force and taught at the church’s after school program.   She had been a member of the former 20th Century Club and was a resident of Fredericksburg for the past 63 years.  She and Dale loved spending winters in Venice, FL and loved vacations with the family in Canada every summer.  Jan was a lifelong learner who loved to read and take college classed throughout her life.  She was gifted and talented and will always be remembered for her service to her family, her community and her Lord.

Surviving are her husband Dale K. James whom she married on Jan. 20, 1956; her children and their spouses, Susan and Peter Halliday of Mooresville, NC, Scott and Anjanette James of Wooster and Sherri and Thomas Machamer of Wooster and her seven grandchildren; David and his wife Allyson Stoltzfus, Leanne and her husband Austin Rose, Steven Machamer, Denise Machamer, Maria James, Sophia James and Wilson James.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Roger Allshouse.

Services will be Friday, Oct. 25th at 3:30 p.m. at Fredericksburg  Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jack McClelland officiating.
