James Hostetler Obituary

James Alan Hostetler, 72, of Creston, died Friday, May 10, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Cleveland after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Lodi on Jan. 22, 1947 to the late James E. and Mary (Blatti) Hostetler and was a member of the Norwayne High School Class of 1965.  He entered the U.S. Marine Corp on Nov. 29, 1965 and honorably served his country having served in Vietnam until May 1, 1969.  He was awarded several medals and citations including the Purple Heart.  On March 7, 1970 Jim married the former Nina L. Hackworth and she survives. He retired from Bliss and Laughlin after 30 years and then worked at Morton Salt for 10 years.  He was a member of American Legion Post 497 in Creston where he served as Chaplain and was a man of faith who loved God and Country.  Jim umpired for many years for high school and little league baseball, coached the Hanzie Meats softball team and in 1998 was honored as a Creston Citizen of the Year for his service to the community.  Jim loved the Marine Corp, watching sports with his favorite teams being those in Cleveland but most of all he loved his family especially his grandkids. 

Surviving are his wife, Nina; his sons, Bryan K (Lucy) Hostetler of Richlands, NC, James R. Hostetler and Michael C. Hostetler both of Creston; his grandchildren, Jeriah (Lauren) Hostetler, Jesiah Hostetler and Kathlita Hostetler; brothers and sister, Larry (Elaine) Hostetler of Myrtle Beach, Donnie Hostetler of Creston, Carol (Wilbur) Daugherty of Bowling Green, KY, Vickie Fortney of Seville, Jim (Dottie) Bible of Henderson, NV and Tim (BJ) Bible of West Salem.

Services will be Wednesday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Rev. John Castle officiating.  Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com  Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home.
