Russell Leroy Butler, 77, went hope to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22 at LifeCare Hospice following a brief illness. He was surrounded by family and friends throughout his stay at Hospice..
Russell was born a twin (Robert) to Dale and Florence (Marshall) Butler in Loudonville, Ohio on August 28, 1938. He married Jean Colleen (McComas) June 21, 1960. Colleen passed away December 14, 1997. He then married Dorothy (Welty) Roeder on August 11, 2004. She survives. Russell attended Loudonville Schools and worked at Rexroth as a tool and die maker for 42 years, retiring in 2004. He was known for his love of sports and coaching youth. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavs, and also of the Triway Titans, West Holmes Knights, Waynedale Golden Bears and Orrville Red Riders. He was a coach of youth football, basketball, girls basketball, baseball and was a key person in starting the youth wrestling program at Triway. He was also an avid woodworker and enjoyed drawing.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey Butler, Jeanette Butler Young and Raymond (Ruth) Butler, 8 grandchildren, Cassandra Butler, Cory Snell, Tara Butler, Tyler Butler, Brandt Young, Lorna Young, Elizabeth Butler and Kollen Butler, along with 4 great-grandchildren, Emelya and Rayln Butler, Rylee Butler and Jake Snell. Also surviving in addition to his wife are her children, Russ’s extended family, Bill (Glenda) Roeder, Susan (Chuck) Blevens, Christine (Rick) Leach, Kathleen (Gary) Spencer and Patricia (Mark) Moser. He also is survived by 9 of his brothers and sisters, Eileen Albert, Emma Sigler, Beulah Strong, Martha Short, Robert Butler, Alice Bowers, Ronald Butler, Donald Butler and John Butler.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Colleen, his son Russell Butler, his grandson Jared Butler and the following brothers and sisters, Hazel Sigler, Richard Butler, Charles Butler, Franklin Butler, Dorothy Butler, Arthur Butler and Raymond Butler (who is youngest son was named after).
He will be deeply missed by family and many dear friends.
Services will be Friday, Feb. 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Pastor Brad Dews officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
