Richard A. “Red” Moss, 80, of Creston, died unexpectedly, Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, 2011 at Wooster Community Hospital.

He was born May 23, 1931 in Charleston, W.Va. the son of the late John and Molly (Johnson) Moss and had made his home in Rittman most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army serving in Germany and had worked at the PCA in Rittman for many years until he retired with a disability in 1991. He was well known for his hiking, jogging and hiking skills and was acquainted with many people in the area. When he was no longer able to do these activities he spent much time studying maps and talking about old times and roads that he traveled. He also loved NASCAR Racing and Blue Grass Music. He like to visit churches and socialize with the people. He had a great love for the people of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in Norton.

Surviving are his wife Ellen (Crawford) Moss of Creston; a son Richard A. (Melissa) Moss II of Rittman; daughters Marilyn (Dan) Valentine of Creston, Molly Arlene (Merle) Begly of Wooster, Debbie (Jim) Adkins of Creston and Robin (Stanley) Fries of Wooster; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren including beloved grandson Ricky (Angie) Moss of Rittman their children Connor, Mason and Olivia and David Smith who was like a brother.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Kathryn M. Moss, son Gary W. Moss and a brother Claude Moss.

Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Cecil Farmer Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Rittman Cemetery.
