Richard Lee Marty

Richard Lee Marty, 74, of Creston, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday evening, March 9, 2017 at the Louis Stokes VA Hospital in Cleveland.
Richard was born May 15, 1942 in Sterling to the late John and Pearl (Gasser) Marty and married the former Sherryl Tobias on Dec. 15, 1968. She survives. He graduated from Norwayne High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 – 1967. Richard was an independent truck driver for nearly 50 years and was a faithful member of the Chippewa Church of the Brethren having served as an usher, trustee and on the cemetery committee. He was also a member of the Creston American Legion Post 497 and the afternoon coffee club at Pike Station Inn in Creston.
Surviving are his wife, Sherryl; children and their spouses, Barbara and David Blevins of West Salem and Michael and Dana Marty of Creston; grandchildren, Emma, Evan and Ethan Marty; brothers and sister, Dale Marty of Rittman, Jean Myers of Mansfield and Jim (Mary Ann) Marty of Rittman and his mother-in-law, Jeanne Tobias and family of Sterling. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Ralph Tobias and a brother Harold Marty.
Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Chippewa Church of the Brethren in Creston with Pastor Bill Eley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
