Virgil Ray Winchell

Virgil Ray Winchell, 70, of Wooster, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in the comfort of his home after a brief illness.
Ray was born May 27, 1948 in Wadsworth to the late Clyde Sr. and Maxine (Goody) Winchell and was a 1966 graduate of Norwayne High School. On Oct. 3, 1981 he married the former Linda S. Fleming and she survives. He retired after 32 years from Rubbermaid Inc. and then worked as an electrician for his son-in-law, David Miller for 6 years. For the past 8 years Ray was a school bus driver for Wooster City Schools. Over the years, Ray was active in Union Local 302 where he served as Vice-President, coached pee-wee football, umpired baseball and slow pitch and fast pitch softball and played on several area softball teams. He loved hunting, camping and mowing his yard and he will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; children and their families, Raquel Johnston of Jeromesville and her children, Haley (Dylan) Grate and Elizabeth, Zachary and Maxwell Johnston; Stacy and Jessica Winchell of Creston and their daughters, Lynnsey, Leah and Elaina Winchell; Annette and David Miller of Wooster and their sons, Kyle Miller (Nicole Lacko) and Corben Miller (Moriah Foraker); Scott and Heidi Winchell of Wooster and their son, Dylan Winchell and Brett and April Fleming of Oak Park, IL and their son Silas Fleming; a brother, Clyde Winchell Jr. of Wooster and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur “Bud” Thompson; grandchildren, Aken Fleming and Sydney Winchell and a great-grandson, Easton Miller.
Services will be Monday, April 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Smithville Brethren Church in Smithville with Pastor Scott Fetter officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.
