Merle E. Howard, 82, of LaGrange, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 following a brief illness.

He was born at Lester in Medina County the son of the late Homer and Alice (Allen) Howard and he married Ruth Brammer on June 23, 1963. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from the GM Fisher Guide Plant in Elyria. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and usher and the Jolly 60’s and  was a charter member of West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 12 in Elyria. He made his home LaGrange for the past 43 years and had enjoyed Blue Grass music and traveling. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife Ruth; his daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Paul Burt of Kipton; 2 brothers Frank Howard of Litchfield and George Howard of Medina and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Virgil, Joseph and two infant brothers and sisters Ruth Harbert, Marge Stevanus, Myrtle Keller and Martha Howard.

Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of LaGrange with Pastor Noel Hack officiating. Burial will be in Canaan Cemetery near Creston.
