Obituary:

Joseph J. Helton, 69, of Creston, died Friday, October 7, 2011 at Meadowview Care Center in Seville following a period of declining health. 

Joe was born July 10, 1942 in Cleveland the son of the late Herman H. and Opal W.  (Rose) Helton and he married Glenna Prentiss on July 12, 1986 and she survives.  He graduated from Windsor High School and served 9 years in the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War.    He retired from Roadway Express following 29 years service and had made his home in Creston for the past 30 years.  He was a member Union Local 24 and had enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing.

Surviving are his wife Glenna; children Joey Helton, Megan Helton and Josh Helton all of Creston, a brother Dean Helton of Litchfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard and Rhonda Prentiss and Robin and Woody  May and nieces and nephews including special nephew Justin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Al and Ray.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 12th at 1:30 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston.  Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
