Joe Starling, 52, of Burbank, died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family and friends at home on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 after an eleven month fight against cancer.
Joe was born in Wadsworth on Jan. 1, 1966 to the late Benjamin “Frank” and Lois (Lindeman) Starling and was a 1984 graduate of Northwestern High School and the Wayne County Schools Career Center where he was in the Carpentry Class. He worked for Medina Supply for the past 26 years having previously worked at Buckeye Barns and had made his home in the Burbank area all of his life. Everyone that knew Joe knew that he loved to hunt. From bow hunting to coon hunting, Joe traveled to coon hunting tournament over the years, was a member of the Medina Coon Hunters Club and he always took great pride in teaching kids to hunt. He loved 4-wheeling, camping and boating and was an Ohio State, Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. Joe was a respected coached for many years in the Norwayne Youth Baseball program and for several years in the Norwayne Youth Football program. He loved working with kids and he never missed a game. He built his home near Burbank in 1989 which has been the gathering place for family and friends and a place to gather for Holidays, play cards and share stories. Joe will be remembered as a man who was loyal, trustworthy, one who put others before himself and who always kept a promise.
Joe will be greatly missed but forever remember by his loving wife, the former Michelle Minks whom he has shared the past 14 years; his children, Whitney Starling of Burbank and Chad Starling of the home; Dustin (Carolyn) Grier of Creston and Lauren Grier of the home; his first grandchild due in January; a brother, Ben Starling of Wooster; a sister-in-law, Cindy Starling of Wooster; many nieces and nephews including special nephew, Will (Anne) Starling and family of New Pittsburg and a host of family and friends including good friends Jimmy Thompson and Don Iacobucci and his beloved Golden Retriever, Bo. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William “Bill” and Brian “Slim” Starling and a sister, Cindy Bowman.
Services will be Saturday, Sept. 15that 11:00 a.m. at Crossroads Assembly of God, 10220 Wooster Pike, Creston with Pastor Roger Larrison officiating. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. My parents Tom and Dora Sword were friends with Ben and Lois starting back in the 40s. Ben used to go to Canada fishing with my Dad. The 2 oldest boys were the age of my sister, Connie and I.Spent a lot of time with this wonderful family. My deepest sympathy to Ben and the remaining family. You lost too many, way too young.
