Shirley Joann Plant

Joann Plant, 80, of Fredericksburg,died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Sycamore Run Nursing Home in Millersburg following a lengthy illness.
Born Shirley Joann on April 29, 1936 in Fredericksburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Edith (Martin) Carr and was a 1954 graduate of Fredericksburg High School.
She married Roy E. Plant on Aug. 14, 1978 and he survives. Jo worked at the Fredericksburg Pottery, Hostetler’s and Lytle’s Store in Fredericksburg; Mrs. Miller’s Fabric Store and JoAnn Fabrics in Wooster and at Meta Fab in Fredericksburg where she retired from in 1985 due to Multiple Sclerosis which she battled for over 40 years.
A life resident of Fredericksburg where she was active in her community and church. She was a member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deacon and helped with various church projects and over the years she was involved in Girl Scouts, PTA, was the dispatcher for the Fredericksburg Fire Dept. for many years and volunteer at the Fredericksburg Library. Joann also had served as the Daily Record Corresponent for the Fredericksburg area for many years. She was honored as a Fredericksburg Citizen of the Year for her years of service to the community that she deeply loved. Joann was an avid Cleveland Indians and Waynedale Golden Bears fan and loved anything with butterflies.
Surviving are her husband Roy; daughters, Polly (Bob) Yoder of Holmesville and Laura Lemon and Janis Lemon both of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Caryn (Chad) Betson, Michael (Renee) Lemon and Tony Yoder; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Mason Lemon and Cayden and Cylee Betson; step-daughters, Becky (Randy) Houston of Wooster, Pat (Bruce) Whitworth of Shreve and Peg (Dave) Didinger of Glenmont; 6 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; a brother Richard Carr of Englewood, FL, a sister, Linda Alexander of Fredericksburg and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Kay Lemon; her parents, brothers, Albert “Dave”, Lawrence, Raymond, Arthur and Robert and sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Peg” Bill and Phyllis Powell.
Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Rev. Jack McClelland officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg East Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
