Obituary:

Howard D. Shafer, 73, of Creston, died Monday evening, July 18, 2011 at Wooster Community Hospital following a 3 month period of declining health.
Howard was born May 26, 1938 on the family farm near Creston, the son of the late Ira and Dortha (Rennecker) Shafer. On June 21, 1959 he married Esther Graber who survives. He was a 1957 graduate of Norwayne High School and had worked for Andy Bauder Electric in Rittman for 25 years years and then at the Rohrer Corp. in Wadsworth for the past 23 years. He was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church and had made his home on Steiner Road near Creston all of his life. He was an avid hunter having hunted in Africa and South America and enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie and in Canada. He was a master of many trades and could figure out just about any problem. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wife Esther; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Trudy Shafer of Creston, Howard and Kathleen Graber of Wooster, Lavina and Glenn Showalter of Dalton and Harvey Graber of Creston and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin Brother Homer Shafer and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Ilene and Robert Richard and Wilma Graber.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Mennonite Church Cemetery 7843 Smucker Rd., Smithville. Per Howard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Those who wish man make contribution to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com Murray Funeral Home in Creston is handling arrangements.
