David Ellsworth McIlvaine, II
September 22, 1937 - January 2, 2016
David Ellsworth McIlvaine, II strolled into greener pastures on January 2, 2016. He had a full and an active life as a husband, business man, father, friend and so much more. He was a Creston enthusiast and did all he could to help his community. He was passionate about his family, his Scottish heritage and helping others.
After a stint in the Marine Corps and enrolling at Wooster College, he married the love of his life and hung his shingle in the business world. As a lark, he named his company “Ditch Diggers of Creston” after a high school teacher told him “you’ll never be more than a ditch digger.” He grew his business and later incorporated it as David E. McIlvaine, Inc. aka Demco. He enjoyed success as the owner of a heavy equipment and industrial construction company. He also acquired and renovated commercial and residential properties in his hometown of Creston, Ohio.
One of his hobbies was thoroughbred horse racing, even though he knew it was a money pit. He did it for the love of the sport and wintered in Hallandale, Florida for twenty three years were he was near the track.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, sons David (Stephanie) and Michael (Tetyana), and grandchildren Miles, Gavin, Lillian, Violet and James.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be Saturday, Jan. 9th from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Genesis Party Center, 10265 Wooster Pike, Creston, OH. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Rd. Medina, OH 44256.
Dave always said, “ I am lucky. I have a great wife and family , good employees and many good friends. I am lucky.”
