Darrell Eugene Horton Sr.

February 27, 1956 - June 29, 2016


Darrell Eugene Horton, Sr., 60, of Rittman, died Wednesday morning, June 29, 2016 at Hospice of Summa at Barberton Citizens Hospital following a brief illness.

Darrell was born Feb. 27, 1956 in Richlands, VA to the late Asa and Polly (Puckett) Horton.  He was a 1974 graduate of Rittman High School and had worked at Goldsmith and Eggleton in Wadsworth.   Darrell had made his home in Rittman most of his life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his children, Darrell Jr. (Shannon) Horton and April (Tony Holman) Horton both of Rittman; grandchildren, Tiffany, Daniel, Arizona and Aunix; brothers, Rick (Sandy) Horton and Tony (Brenda) Horton; a sister Karen (Art) Oppy and a nephew, Matt (Sarah) Horton all of Rittman.

Services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at South Main St. Church of God in Rittman with Pastor Jeff Ball officiating.  Friends may call from 12:00 noon until services at 2:00 p.m.at the church. Memorial donations may be made in care of Murray Funeral Home, 173 S. Main St., Creston, OH 44217 who is handling arrangements.  Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com

 Darrell never knew this, but
when we were boys I really admired his willingness to get up, way before sunrise, to run his trap line.
 Trudging mile after mile, in all kinds of weather.
 I was genuinely impressed at his determination.
 I clearly remember him buying
his first car with the money he had made from this.
 It inspired me for years, and I wish I had thought to tell him so, but I think he knows it now...

So sorry to hear about Darrell. Our sympathy to the family..He was such a pleasant person. I remember when he was just a little tyke how he loved to go to the cornfields with us . He would fall asleep on the mule. Never fall off. My Dad thought he was the "Berries". So didwe all.. He was quite a story teller when he was little. I have wonderful memories of him.
