Obituary:
Carl D. Herald, 82, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Wooster Community Hospital following a two month illness.
Carl was born Oct. 27, 1927 in the family home in Fredericksburg the son of Maurice and Annie L. (Franks) Herald. He married his beloved Bertha Rose Tarleton on Oct. 23, 1948 in Greenup, KY. Bertha preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2000. Carl was a 1945 graduate of Fredericksburg High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp serving with the 5th Air Squad. He retired following 40 years in 1990 from the Wooster Brush Co. He was a member of the Wooster Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed reading his Bible daily, making clocks, playing his harmonica, old cars, trains and was an avid reader of Civil War History.
Surviving are his daughter Christine Massoud of Fredericksburg; a brother Richard (Rilla) Herald of Wooster; a step-sister Grace Speelman of Fredericksburg; nieces and nephews and a special cousin Ivan Scott of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents, step-mother Bertha Herald; brothers Kenneth and Russell Herald, a sister Marcella Edlen; three infant siblings and a step-brother Calvin Herron.
Services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Greg Hill officiating. Burial will be in Fredericksburg West Cemetery.
