Alfred L. Patterson, 97, of Creston, died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster after having celebrate Christmas with family just one week before.
Al was born Oct. 1, 1919 in Clark to the late Roy and Nellie (Bechtol) Patterson and served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942 – 1945 having been stationed in New Finland. On March 9, 1945 he married the former Lucille Uhl and she preceded him in death on the same day, Jan. 3, 2002. Al had made his home in the Creston area since 1945 and retired from the Packaging Corp. of America in Rittman in 1981. He later helped his daughter and son-in-law with their farm operation until he was nearly ninety years of age and was a member of the Creston Presbyterian Church and had been an avid bowler over the years.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ed Gasser of Sterling; daughter-in-law, Rita Patterson of Wooster; 3 grandsons and their wives, Chad and Sandy Gasser of Rittman, Kevin and Sonya Gasser of Staunton, VA and Brian and Cassandra Gasser of Sterling; 6 great-grandchildren, Matthew McClain, Christie Groah, Paxton, Hadley, Max and Grace Gasser; a great-great-granddaughter, Audriana Grace; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean Patterson of Coshocton, Herbert and Norita Patterson of Creston and Ron and Helen Patterson of Millersburg; a sister, Bernice Dreher of Coshocton; sister-in-law, Vivian Uhl VanHouton of Flagstaff, AZ; a life-long friends, Ivadell Schar of Creston; his dear neighbor and friend, Christine Von Bergen and her family of Creston and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Larry Patterson in 1984; a granddaughter, Lisa Raper; a sister, Marjorie Patterson and brothers, Don and George Patterson.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston where friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery. Tributes may be shared at www.Murray-Funeral-Home.com
